Foot Notes
To keep your feet in tip top shape I suggest the following:
-
Give your feet a treat, place them in a warm foot bath and dry them well before you go to bed.
- Use a good foot cream then wrap them in cling film for about an hour. This will help quicken the moisturising process.
- Always moisturise them after showering, but remember to use a cream which has at least 10% urea in it, this will help keep the skin soft and supple and less prone to developing hard skin.
- Change your shoes as often as you would change your socks.
-
Choose your footwear wisely, avoid them if they tend to push the feet into awkward shapes. Choose a snug fitting shoe with adequate toe room and run your fingers inside to detect any rough areas which can cause friction and with a good heel counter.
-
Choose footwear for the job. If you do any kind of sport, make sure that they are suitable for that activity, i.e. running, jogging, tennis, climbing etc. They are designed to support.
- Avoid nylon socks.
- Make sure that after showering you dry in between your toes well to avoid the skin becoming soggy and macerated.
- If they already are soggy and macerated – spraying them with surgical spirit will help dry them out and restore them to health after a few weeks.
-
Painting your nails can often disguise nail problems and contributes to a poor state of health. Try not to leave it on for long periods of time.
- If you are seeing a Foot Health Practitioner please remove any nail varnish as it can damage burs if the nail has to be reduced.
- If in any doubt about looking after your feet, consult your nearest Foot Health Practitioner. We are always willing to help.
