What We Do

Nail Maintenance

Nail FilingConsists of wiping the foot over with an antiseptic solution and trimming the nail to a suitable level and finishing with a file. This operation renders the nail free of any sharp edges that might get caught in socks or bedclothes. A further swabbing with the solution, cleans and clears any lingering nail dust.

Ingrown Toenail Removal

Blacks FilingThe condition known as ingrown toenail is caused by abnormal growth of the toenail exerting pressure on surrounding tissues. When this growth extends into the surrounding tissue, a painful toe is often the result. Often the irritation is only experienced at one side of the toenail and can cause swelling of the tissues, and further inflammation if left to progress.

Treatment (if caught in time) can be relieved by trimming the “hook” of nail and removing it from the tissues. Inflammation will usually disappear reasonably quickly when this is done. Very often the cause of this condition lies in the footwear being too tight or perhaps a seam may be pressing down on the nail. Examine your footwear regularly as a preventative measure.

Hard Skin Removal

Paring CallusWhen there are shearing and rubbing forces acting upon the feet the body naturally promotes a thicker layer of skin over these areas as a protection. Unless these forces are deflected in some way the thickened skin then becomes the problem.

This is usually treated by using a scalpel to reduce the layers. A prior preparation consisting of salicylic acid can be rubbed over the foot to soften the skin allowing the blade to glide over it. NB There are restrictions in using these types of preparation especially if you suffer from diabetes.)

Corns

Small plugs of skin usually covered by a layer of callus on areas of high pressure. These are treated using a scalpel to reduce /and or bur to remove the plug. Another type encountered is a Seed corn; these can occur anywhere on the foot and are usually associated with having dry skin.

Verruca treatments

These are dependent upon the nature and severity of an individual’s condition and therefore it is impossible to describe how this treatment might progress. Suffice to say that there is a plethora of treatments and much more personal choice for their removal. If you are diabetic could you please mention this at the start of your consultation?

Foot and Arch Pain

All diagnoses of this aspect are varied due to the nature of where and when the pain may occur. In some cases there may be a referral for further investigation.

Please arrange appointment for free consultation or for any of the treatments mentioned above. If you have any queries regarding any of the above please feel free to contact me either by telephone 07932 898211 or using the feedback form at the rear of the site.
